Every August the streets of London come alive during the bank holiday weekend with Europe’s biggest street festival.
The Notting Hill Carnival covers the streets of west London with Caribbean colours, music and multicultural flavours.
Attendees can enjoy elaborate floats and colourful costumed performers wind their way through the streets in the carnival parade, move to the sound of steel bands and calypso music, and visit the delicious smelling food stalls along the route.
If you’ve attended the parade in previous years, you’ll have a good idea of what to expect and what to wear. But if it’s your first time, you might need a couple of tips on what shoes are best (especially if you’re on your feet all day) and how to make the most of the parade.
What shoes should you wear?
Colour is a must! There aren’t many occasions where you can really have fun with different shoe colours – so embrace the opportunity!
While for most occasions pastel tones work better than bright colours (as they make you look supremely well dressed without trying too hard to impress) this is an outing where you can have fun with your shoes. Try invest in colours such as blue, green or red for the perfect carnival look.
At the same time, you don’t want to splash out for a pair of shoes that you can only wear for limited occasions. We suggest going for something like the Sao Paulo men’s lace-up in blue. Magnificently handcrafted and brushed, this shoe will make you stand out for all the right reasons.
The combination of the shoe’s anil brushed colour with the white sole is the perfect balance between classic styling and modern. You can add these with chinos and a blazer for a smart casual look or even pair them with black skinny jeans and a shirt.
As you’ll be moving around a lot and on your feet for most of the day, you’ll be after a shoe that provides you with all-day comfort. The Sao Paulo lace-up won’t disappoint here. Thanks to Anatomic Gel Technology and cushioned sheepskin lining, these shoes will keep your feet happy while you enjoy the parade.
